TEMPE VIDEO was first spawned as a mail-order distributor in the summer of 1991 as an offshoot of producer/director J.R. Bookwalter's The Suburban Tempe Company (later Tempe Entertainment). Their first release, BASIC HOW-TO HALLOWEEN MAKEUPS VOLUME ONE, paved the way for many more VHS releases to come and spawned an offshoot label, Video Outlaw, in 1994.

Tempe Video took a hiatus in 1996 during a move to Los Angeles, California but was resurrected for the digital age as Tempe DVD in 2001 with the acquisition of three features produced for Full Moon Pictures WITCHOUSE 3: DEMON FIRE, HELL ASYLUM and DEAD & ROTTING. That led to a series of Remastered Special Editions for previous Tempe productions such as SKINNED ALIVE, BLOODLETTING, OZONE and POLYMORPH as well as a variety of acquisitions including TOWNIES and EDDIE PRESLEY.

A spinoff label, Splatter Rampage, was launched in 2002 with the release of MULVA: ZOMBIE ASS KICKER! & FILTHY McNASTY Double Feature and the Bad Movie Police label followed later in the year with CASE .. 1: GALAXY OF THE DINOSAURS and CASE .. 2: CHICKBOXER (a new spin on some entertainment-challenged productions from 1991-1992). In 2006, Tempe has added Fat Cat DVD to the mix, a genre-bending label launched with PROJECT: VALKYRIE and DAWN.
